Organic Coconut Palm Sugar
This Natural Low GI Sugar Alternative is sourced from the crystallized nectar of the tropical coconut palm tree blossom. It is harvested by traditional Indonesian farmers, then evaporated and crushed into a unique, unbleached, not-too-sweet sugar alternative.
Coconut Palm Sugar looks like dry brown sugar and has a yummy caramel flavour.
Palm Sugar - low on the Glycemic Index
Palm Sugar has a naturally Low Glycemic Index rating of GI 35. It is nearly half the GI of cane sugar at GI 68 and lower than honey at GI 55 and even agave GI 42.
In addition Organic Coconut Palm Sugar has a richer nutrient content than most other commercially available sugars. It contains protein (12 amino acids) and comparatively high mineralization including potassium, magnesium, phosphorous, zinc and iron. (See Nutrition Panel Below)
Sustainable Sugar that is kind to the planet
Many indigenous island communities call the coconut sugar palm the "Tree of Life" because of the wide range of products that can be sourced from the one plant. This species which is different to the Palm Oil tree, grows in wildlife friendly agro-ecosystems and provide farmers witha sustainable profitable crop.
Palm Sugar is resource friendly - it yields 50 – 75% more sugar per acre than cane sugar while using less than 20 percent of the nutrient resources. The World Bank's FAO contends that it's the single most sustainable sweetener in the world!!
How to Use Palm Sugar
Replace 1:1 with cane sugar in beverages like coffee/tea/chai/cocoa or homemade lemonade/iced tea. Alternatively, it's easily incorporated into all your favourite dessert recipes.
